Our Mission

The Water Alliance aspires to be a lever for change, a space for conversation, and a collector of wisdom.

Traditional industrial-scale methods of water management are unsustainable, wreaking havoc in ecosystems and imposing financial burdens on citizens, cities and towns.

The Water Alliance seeks to harness and support the creativity of those who are discovering the genius of more sustainable design principles found in nature:  in particular, integrated systems, efficiency and reuse, resilience and renewal, abundance, and adaptation to local context.

The foundation of our work is The 2007 Baltimore Charter for Sustainable Water Systems. The charter calls for technologies, institutions and systems that mimic and work with nature to restore our human and natural ecology across lots, neighborhoods, cities and watersheds.

The Water Alliance seeks to integrate new thoughts and contributions. Only through collaboration can we build on the Charter, find new ideas, and develop successful models.

The Water Alliance will educate and inform institutions and the public and will recommend necessary shifts in policies to restore the Water Commons.
